Every September the Gallery holds its Annual General Meeting. This is a time of reflection and renewal and a chance to celebrate our achievements. We also take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard work of our supporters and volunteers.
This year we thanked the ever-generous Kevin Soster for his time and energy as the spearhead for the fundraising efforts of the new building. He was bestowed with an Honorary Life Membership and now joins the ranks of an exclusive group of devoted supporters such as Joan Wilkinson and Martha Tripp.
Our current President, Bernard Davidson, also announced the appointment of our new staff member Emily Carter, whose employment is a historical moment in the life of the Gallery. Having operated with minimal staff for the past 10 years the Gallery is thankful to see our human resources grow. The Ashburton District Council were thanked for their support of this growth. Emily will coordinate all the
front of house and reception duties and will also be in charge of the administration of the Friends programme.
Another significant moment of the AGM was the appointment of our new governing body – the Ashburton Art Gallery Committee. This year we experienced a noteworthy change with regards to the makeup of our Executive Committee. After 8 years of devoted service, Anne Carr stepped down as Vice-President and Michael Armstrong was nominated as her replacement. Anne’s contribution to the spirit and direction of the Gallery has been outstanding and her advice and guidance can never be adequately acknowledged. Additionally, the Gallery committee grew by 4 new members this year and our Executive committee welcomed Jac Sparks as a new addition to better reflect this growing number.
