Emily will be missed by many
Over the past two-and-a-half years I have been privileged to be Front of House Coordinator at the Ashburton Art Gallery. In this time I’ve encountered many wonderful and inspirational people, from members of the local community to visiting tourists and artists. I’ve also really enjoyed getting to know local families, especially those who attend our kids clubs and school holiday programmes.
Being part of a small, close-knit team has the advantage that you become involved in many aspects of the Gallery, including helping with installing shows and assisting with public programmes. I’ve learnt an immense number of new skills, from the practical filling, sanding and painting of walls (I never knew there was so much involved in install prep!), to the proper handling and condition reporting of artworks.
Looking back, it’s incredible to think of the number and variety of exhibitions the Gallery has hosted during my time here – over 40 in fact! Highlights for me would have to be our Faces and Places, Kermadec and Tonga ‘I Onopooni exhibitions.
I have been lucky to work in such a fun and supportive environment and would like to thank my colleagues Shirin, Simone and Nicole, and our team of amazing volunteers. They are all incredibly talented and dedicated, and I look forward to keeping up-to-date with the Gallery’s news and activities over the coming years.
