Emma Fitts Artist Talk & Afternoon Tea
With the utmost respect for those affected in yesterday’s tragic events, the Gallery, along with our Christchurch-based artist Emma Fitts have decided to postpone today’s artist talk due to take place at 2pm today.
Gallery staff will be here for anyone who wishes to come together at this time and a new date for Emma’s talk will be announced in due course.
We send our love and thoughts to every individual calling New Zealand their home and especially our Muslim communities near and far. Kia kaha.
Please join us at the Gallery for an artist talk by Emma Fitts the ZAFAA18 Premier Winner on Saturday 16th March at 2pm.
Fitts completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury in 2002 and a Master of Fine Art from the Glasgow School of Art in 2010. Her individual practice and collaborative work as Fitts & Holderness and Victor & Hester, has seen her participate in exhibitions and residencies both nationally and internationally. Fitts returned to Christchurch in 2014 as the Olivia Spencer Bower awardee and has most recently been the McCahon House resident for winter 2018.
Fitts’s exhibition Towards Another Figure is an exhibition which draws on her research into alternative histories, storytelling, and events. This most recent body of work has been informed by the histories of women who were overlooked or under-represented in the traditional archive. The idea of biography; the histories of architecture and textiles; and a broader social context are integral elements of her work.
This talk will be followed by an afternoon tea at the Gallery.
Free event, all welcome.
