NGĀI TAHU CULTURAL MAPPING PROJECT
Join us for a special talk presented by Takerei Norton (Ngāi Tahu) Manager of the Ngāi Tahu Archive Team, during Māori Language Week. Since 2007 Norton has headed Kā Huru Manu, the Ngāi Tahu Cultural Mapping Project recording traditional Ngāi Tahu knowledge on the tribal Geographical Information System (GIS).
He and his colleagues are charged with locating and documenting sites or “values” that have some historical or cultural significance to the iwi with the aim of identifying the most iconic sites so that efforts can be made to preserve, protect and improve access to them.
