Well off to Darfield this afternoon, hoping to remember the way. About an hours drive from Ashburton into the Selwyn District. The Arts Council there is a hard working motivated group who have driven the development of the Selwyn District's Art Gallery. They also coordiante an Art Week and generally keep New Zealand's culture alive and well in their community. Being totally volunteer run, they are now looking to take the next step and hire a staff member. The Ashburton Art gallery is in this case a good model to discuss as the Gallery is only 13 years old and therefore went through this process not so long ago. Darfield is well worth a visit for those of you who have not been before, a visit to the art gallery is of course mandatory but there are also great spots for coffee and lunch. The Selwyn District is also very beautiful so a great spot for a picnic this Summer. I will be planning a number myself.
