Renowned Geraldine painter John Badcock will have a solo exhibition of portraits at the Ashburton Art Gallery this Autumn. The subject of portraiture is one that Badcock has frequented throughout his career which spans more than 30 years. Badcock’s accomplishments in this subject include being a finalist in the New Zealand Portrait Awards in 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006 and the publication of a book Passing People-100 portraits which provided an in-depth look at a series of portraits he painted during 2003 and 2004.
Characteristic of John’s paintings is the richness of emotional brushstrokes as if paint appears to drip off the canvas which provoking thought and conversation, insight, and revealing a depth of understanding of the human condition.
