Ashburton Sculpture Symposium 2018

ABOUT THIS EXHIBITION

about-exhibition

DATES & TIMES

20 October - 11 November 2018

Open Daily: 10am - 4pm

For a second time the Gallery has partnered with the Ashburton Sculpture Symposium (formerly the Ashburton Stone Sculpture Symposium) to support this special event which brings eleven sculptors from across New Zealand and from overseas to Ashburton.
All works will be created from Timaru bluestone and Mt Somers limestone which has been quarried and trucked into the Ashburton Domain for this event. Spectators have the opportunity to engage with the artists while they make their work and be able to see the progress and action on site.

This year’s sculptors include Moira Crossman (Dunedin), Pita Rua (Picton), Suzanne Emslie (Dunedin), Debbie Templeton-Page (Timaru), Steve Molloy (New Plymouth), Paul Deans (Christchurch), Rex O’Brien (Mount Maunganui), Jocelyn Pratt (Putaruru), Jina Lee (South Korea, currently based in Perth Australia) and Brent Holley (Ashburton).

The symposium will start on the 20th of October with the artists working on site for two weeks. Following this the sculptures will be on display at the Domain until the 11th of November when the symposium will conclude with a public auction and family fun day in the magnificent Ashburton Domain. The Gallery will have smaller sculptures on display throughout the duration of the symposium, and will host a night of artist talks prior to the auction on the 31st of October.

Family Fun Day | 11 November 11:00am—3:00pm
Auction | 11 November 1:30pm
