ABOUT THIS EXHIBITION
DATES & TIMES
4 April - 16 May 2021
Open Daily: 10am - 4pm
Based in Pōneke Wellington, Ashburton-born Hamish Coleman’s first solo exhibition at the Gallery explores a complex relationship with his hometown and how memory is so strongly tied up with a sense of place and physical environment.
Equal parts portrait of the land and of himself, Coleman has captured and cropped still images from his own videos taken while revisiting particular locations from his childhood. Rendering these in iridescent oil paint, he alludes to an unsettling sense of nostalgia centred on people and places; on remembering and forgetting.
