ABOUT THIS EXHIBITION
DATES & TIMES
5 May - 18 June 2021
Open Daily: 10am - 4pm
Whanganui-based glass artist Dominic Burrell enjoys his summer breaks in and around Hakatere Ashburton spending time with family and friends. It’s a break from the heat and pressure of the hot room in his studio and a chance to take in new inspiration for his towering blown sculptures.
A respected and well-collected contemporary artist, Burrell has been working with glass since 2003. Having studied Social Science at Otago University then Interior Design, he graduated from the Whanganui Design School and has been a full time artist and maker.
His glass stacks are alluring and mystifying in their construction and explore geographical landforms, isobaric weather maps and shifts in perception. His fascination with colour, form and pattern result in beautifully balanced objects which celebrate the best in glass blowing and sculpting techniques.
Burrell is represented by private galleries throughout New Zealand. This will be his first solo exhibition in Mid-Canterbury.
