Annual General Meeting 2019
On the 19th of September, the Gallery held its 35th Annual General Meeting for the public and Friends of the Gallery. This meeting is significant as it gives all stakeholders in the Gallery the chance to celebrate the successes of the past year and prepare the committee for the upcoming year.
In his President’s report, Derek Binnie summarised the past year, identifying his favourite exhibitions including Snark: A Victorian Odyssey by David Elliot, and Marjan Verstappen’s Atlas of Nowhere. He thanked the committee, volunteers and Art Gallery team for their hard work and support in creating a wonderful, must-see destination for both locals and visitors to the area.
Derek noted the resignations of Pauline Mead, Susan Lill and Anne Carr from the Committee and expressed gratitude for their work over the years.
A special presentation for outstanding contribution to the Gallery was made to Committee member Anne Carr. Anne has been a stalwart of the Art Gallery since 1996, and Derek’s presentation highlighted her generosity, sense of fun, skill at running events and her wholehearted support of the Ashburton Art Gallery for over twenty years.
Anne was presented with an honorary life membership to a standing ovation.
The 2019/20 Committee members are: Derek Binnie (President), Fleur Tompsett (Vice President), Michael Armstrong, Sarah Davidson, Jenny Gill, Denise O’Halloran, Linda Petrie, Selwyn Price, Sarndra Read and Jac Sparks.
