Microscopic Worlds | On the Importance of Small
ABOUT THIS EXHIBITION
DATES & TIMES
4 - 23 October 2021
Open Daily: 10am - 4pm
Microscopic Worlds: On The Importance of Small investigates the microscopic fabric of the natural world. Through this investigation, the line between science and art is blurred. Images from the biosphere and the geosphere are presented using research optical and electronic microscopes.
The programme brings together 3D images of local water samples, plants, insects, spiders as well as everyday items taken with the Scanning Electron Microscopes at the University of Canterbury. These highly magnified images will then be presented in an exhibition using both printed media and large-screen monitors and used to introduce children to the microscopic world. The exhibition will be accompanied by experienced science educators from the team at Interactive Exhibition Services. For an entry charge of $2, visitors to the exhibition will be given 3D glasses and a catalogue to help them in their understanding of the images provided.
Historic microscopes from the Cotter Medical History Museum will be on display, highlighting how microscopes have developed throughout history. Captivating 3D images of plants, insects, and spiders will allow participants to get close and personal with the natural world. The informative catalogue holds amazing details about our small, but important, microscopic worlds.
