This book examines the work of artist Marcus King. King is arguably New Zealand’s most viewed artist, yet up until now much of his art and life have remained a mystery. He is most well-known for his vintage travel posters depicting New Zealand as an alluring tourist destination, and popular painting; The Signing of the Treaty of Waitangi – part of a significant series of work documenting New Zealand’s cultural heritage.

This book is a wonderful study of King’s career as a commercial artist, graphic designer and leading impressionist painter. He produced an extensive body of work spanning 50 years from 1920 – 1970, including large scale documentary murals, commercial posters and landscape paintings. His achievements across commercial and fine art within New Zealand are said to be unmatched.
