You Know the Work, but do you know the artist behind them?

You will recognise the work, but who is this iconic artists . Find out with this book, Marcus King- Painting New Zealand for the World written in collaboration by Peter Alsop and Warren Feeney. This book examines the work of artist Marcus King. King is arguably New Zealand’s most viewed artist, yet up until now much of his art and life have remained a mystery. He is most well-known for his vintage travel posters depicting New Zealand as an alluring tourist destination, and popular painting; The Signing of the Treaty of Waitangi – part of a significant series of work documenting New Zealand’s cultural heritage.

This book is a wonderful study of King’s career as a commercial artist, graphic designer and leading impressionist painter. He produced an extensive body of work spanning 50 years from 1920 – 1970, including large scale documentary murals, commercial posters and landscape paintings. His achievements across commercial and fine art within New Zealand are said to be unmatched.

Marcus King is a fascinating read for anyone interested in the history of New Zealand art and design. It includes hundreds of spectacular high-quality images and reveals the story behind an iconic yet often overlooked artist.
